Hello Friends! Great to see so many visitors at Skookum's Little Library over the weekend. I've added several new books including The Cat in the Hat, Down at the Seaweed Cafe, Cam Jansen, and Who Drives This? And for adults, I have included Custody of the State, Hunting Unicorns, The Firebrand, and Families of the Vine (for all you winemaking enthusiasts!). A big hello to Miss Dakota! Thank you for visiting Skookum and we hope you enjoy your books! Keep reading!

Curious George, Spider-Man, and Flower Princesses

Hello Readers!  I have stocked Skookum with a series of children's books including Curious George, Shrek, Spider-Man, Flower Princesses, and Midnight Firefighters.  We have also received some guest book entries including another note left by Miss Julie.  I am so glad to read that you love the books!  It makes my heart burst with butterflies.

We were also visited by Miss Shayla!  I hope that you are enjoying your books as well!

I have included more bookmarks in our little green pail!  Grab one when visiting Skookum!

Cheers,

United Way, Discover Books & Donations!

Hello Readers! I had the biggest thrill this week. Tuesday morning a Discover Books delivery truck unexpectedly arrived at my home. I was just finishing up breakfast when my husband yelled, "Jackie, you have to come to the window. I think this truck is for you!"

I bursted out the door to meet their driver who informed me that they had a delivery of books for Skookum. I was so excited that I grabbed him and gave him a big hug. This wonderful donation was made possible by the Fraser Valley United Way's Executive Director Wayne Green.

The United Way and Discover Books donated a variety of great reading material for our younger crowd. I have stocked Skookum with a series of Dr. Suess books as well as Geronimo Stilton! I love that little Italian mouse. We also have Arthur and Elmo for our early readers. A big thank you to the United Way, Executive Director Wayne Green, Discover Books and Payam for assisting with the delivery!

And we have more...A big thank you to George, fellow teacher and Archie collector, for donating a stack of comics to Skookum!

Grab a few good books to read before heading off to enjoy the long weekend! Thank you all for supporting Skookum Reads!

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Library Live and On Tour!

Library Live and On Tour aka LiLi

Abbotsford's Family Fun Day was in full swing this morning!  Many of the city's family resources were at the event as well as an array of children's games and crafts.  I also had the opportunity to experience the Fraser Valley Regional Library's "Library Live and On Tour" van and meet their very knowledgeable and energetic Tour Manager Dave Denault

LiLi Tour Manager Dave Denault

With the music bumpin' behind him, Dave informed me of a series of events and happenings organized by the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL).  The Fraser Valley Library's new community library card allows individuals who have no form of ID or proof of address to check out books on limited basis.  He also offered to wave my fines because sometimes I forget to return the books on time ;o).  Dave's table was stacked with library swag and materials including the FVRL's summer programs and services magazine.  Check out all the reading clubs, entertainment and activities right here.

Before I left his booth, Dave generously handed me a few books to share with our Skookum readers!  How cool is that?  For those of you learning French, we have "On y va!"...

And "The No More Night Mares: A Dream of Freedom"...

I'm thrilled to have LiLi as part of our community.  LiLi is a literally and figuratively a vehicle designed to reach remote communities unable to access learning resources as well as a symbol that represents the mobility literacy affords individuals.  I look forward to seeing Dave and LiLi at future family events!

Cheers,

Jacqueline
